This extremely difficult 12.4-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the stunning Refuge du Saut along the Route des Avals. The trail starts at a parking area where you should make sure to leave no trace behind. As you begin your journey, you will come across various points of interest that will enhance your hiking experience.
About 0.5 kilometers into the hike, you will reach the picturesque Lac de Tuéda. This beautiful water body is a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the serenity of nature. Continuing on, at around 0.63 kilometers, you will come across the Maison de la Réserve, where you can learn more about the local area and its wildlife.
Midway through the hike, approximately 3.89 kilometers from the start, you will find a drinking water source at Lac des Fées. It is essential to stay hydrated, especially on a challenging hike like this one. Additionally, around this point, you can also explore the cave entrance at a distance of 6.21 kilometers from the start, but please note that it is slightly off the main trail.
Further along the trail, at 6.15 kilometers, you will reach the cozy Refuge du Saut. This alpine hut provides a perfect resting point and a chance to refuel before making your way back. If you fancy a picnic, there is a picnic site at 6.16 kilometers from the start, where you can relax and enjoy some snacks while surrounded by the beauty of the landscape.
