Welcome to the Piméné hiking route, a challenging and extremely difficult 15.5-kilometer circular trail that offers breathtaking views and a variety of points of interest along the way.
The hike starts in a beautiful natural area near Gavarnie, where you can visit the Maison du Parc for some information about the surroundings before setting off. As you begin your journey, you will pass by the Point d'Information touristique de Gavarnie, where you can learn more about the area and its attractions.
Along the trail, you will come across the Cabane d'Alans, a wilderness hut located at around 1.9 kilometers from the start, offering a possible resting spot for hikers. Further ahead, at approximately 7.4 kilometers from the start, you will reach the peak of Piméné, offering stunning panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness.
For sustenance and refreshments, there are several options available along the trail, including the Bar Brasserie Pizzeria "Le Mourgat" and Bar Brasserie Les Glaciers, among others. Additionally, there are drinking water sources located at various points to keep you hydrated throughout the hike.
As you continue on, you will pass by the Aire de bivouac du Refuge des Espuguettes, a campsite where you can rest or stay overnight if needed. Towards the end of the trail, you will encounter Petit Piméné, another peak worth exploring before heading back to the starting point.
Due to the length of the hike and the significant elevation gain of 1396 meters, it is important to come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, proper hiking gear, and to check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure.
