This extremely difficult hiking route, known as Sentier du Piton des Neiges, spans a distance of 14.082 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1632 meters. The estimated duration for completing this challenging trek is approximately 7 hours and 20 minutes.

The trail starts at Le Bloc parking area, offering easy access for hikers. As you embark on this adventure, you will encounter various points of interest along the way. About 3.97 kilometers from the start, you will come across the Refuge de la Caverne Dufour, an alpine hut where you can rest and refuel.

Continuing on, you will reach Plateau du Petit Matarum, a picturesque viewpoint about 2.11 kilometers into the hike. Here, you can take in the stunning natural surroundings and perhaps enjoy a picnic at the nearby picnic site. Further ahead, at around 6.92 kilometers from the start, you will reach the iconic Piton des Neiges volcano, a must-see landmark on this route.

As you trek back towards the starting point, make sure to stop by the various campsites and shelters along the trail for a well-deserved break.
