This challenging hiking route will take you to Cortijos del Hornillo, a beautiful area with stunning views. The trail is an out-and-back type, spanning a distance of 10.792 kilometers with an elevation gain of 489 meters. The estimated duration for this hike is 3 hours and 43 minutes.
As you start your journey, you'll come across Aparcamiento de las Canteras de Serpentina, a parking area located right at the trailhead. This is a convenient spot to leave your vehicle before hitting the trail. Continuing on, about 2 kilometers into the hike, you'll pass by Sendero Acequia Haza Mesa, where you can learn about the local area and its history.
Further along the trail, at around the 3-kilometer mark, you'll encounter Las acequias, a series of water channels that have been used for centuries to irrigate the surrounding land. Take a moment to appreciate the ingenuity of these ancient water systems.
As you approach the halfway point of the hike, at approximately 4.23 kilometers, you'll find a natural spring at a distance of 7.06 meters from the trail. This is a great spot to refill your water bottles and take a short break before continuing on.
Towards the end of the trail, at around 5.4 kilometers, you'll reach Cortijos del Hornillo, an alpine hut where you can rest and enjoy the panoramic views of the surrounding area. From here, you can also visit Mirador del Hornillo, a nearby viewpoint that offers spectacular photo opportunities.
Throughout the hike, make sure to stay hydrated and pack plenty of water and snacks. Due to the length and elevation gain of the trail, this hike is considered difficult, so be prepared for a challenging but rewarding adventure.
