This moderate 6.642-kilometer out-and-back hiking route takes you through beautiful scenery in the area. The trail has an elevation gain of 437 meters, so be prepared for some uphill sections along the way.
As you start your hike, you will come across a parking area, which is conveniently located at the beginning of the trail. About 0.1 kilometers into the hike, you'll reach the Refugio de Lizara, an alpine hut where you can take a break and enjoy the views.
Further along the trail, approximately 1.43 kilometers from the start, you'll encounter some historic ruins known as Ruinas. These ruins offer a glimpse into the area's past and make for an interesting stop on your hike.
At the 1.13-kilometer mark, you'll find the Refugio de Oldecua, another alpine hut where you can rest and refuel before continuing on.
Finally, as you near the end of the trail at around 3.32 kilometers, you'll reach the Caseta de Vernera, a shelter perfect for a final rest before heading back. This marks the turnaround point of the hike.
