This hiking route takes you through the breathtaking area surrounding El Mazo. The trail covers a distance of 21.531 kilometers with an elevation gain of 998.0 meters, making it an extremely difficult hike that will challenge even experienced hikers. It is recommended to allocate approximately 7 hours and 28 minutes to complete the entire route.
As you begin your hike, you will come across the Pozalagua parking area, which marks the starting point of the trail. About 0.18 kilometers into the hike, you will find the Armañon parketxea, a tourist attraction that is worth exploring. Additionally, at the 0.07 kilometer mark, there is a restaurant named Pozalagua where you can grab a bite to eat before continuing your journey.
One of the highlights of this hike is the Pozalagua-ko kobak, also known as the Cueva de Pozalagua, a cave entrance located right along the trail. Be sure to visit this natural wonder, which is just 0.07 kilometers from the start of the trail. As you progress, you will also encounter a viewpoint with stunning views at the 0.07 kilometer mark.
For those looking to quench their thirst, there are water sources along the trail. One is located 9.47 kilometers from the start, while two others are situated 9.24 kilometers into the hike. It is crucial to stay hydrated throughout the journey, so bringing an adequate amount of water is highly recommended.
As you reach the midway point of the hike, you will find the Parque Natural de Armañon, a beautiful natural park that offers a serene setting to rest and rejuvenate. Moreover, at the 4.06 kilometer mark, you will pass by Sidreria El Cartero, a wheelchair-accessible restaurant where you can refuel.
Towards the latter part of the route, you will come across El Mazo, a peak that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This serves as a fitting endpoint for your out-and-back hike, providing a rewarding conclusion to your challenging journey.
