This extremely difficult 12.2-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the scenic Schermsteinalm area. The trail starts at the parking area, where you can leave your vehicle before heading out. As you make your way, you'll pass by the Alpbühelalm alpine hut, a great spot to take a break and enjoy the mountain views. Further along the trail, you'll come across several benches where you can sit and rest. Be sure to stay hydrated by refilling your water bottle at the drinking water stations located at various points along the trail.
One of the highlights of this hike is the Burgaukopf peak, located 1.78 kilometers from the trail. While it's not directly on the trail, it's worth the detour for the breathtaking panoramic views. As you continue your journey, you'll also come across informative signboards at the Astenberg and other locations, providing insights into the area's history and points of interest.
At around 6.1 kilometers from the start, you'll reach the Schermsteinalm alpine hut, where you can rest and recharge before making your way back.
