The hiking route to Hochiss is an extremely difficult 11.9-kilometer out-and-back trail with an elevation gain of 1309 meters. The trail takes approximately 6 hours to complete and it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding area.
Starting out from the trailhead, hikers will pass by Seecamping Wimmer campsite at only 0.04 kilometers into the hike. Further along the trail at 3.27 kilometers, Dalfazalm restaurant and alpine hut is a great spot to take a break and refuel. For those interested in via ferrata, the Hochiss Klettersteig C/D is located at the same point.
Midway through the hike at 5.95 kilometers, hikers will reach the impressive Hochiss peak. This iconic peak offers panoramic views of the entire region and is a perfect spot to pause and enjoy the scenery. Nearby, you can also explore the Steinernes Tor saddle at 4.53 kilometers from the start.
On the return journey, hikers can stop by the Dalfazer Wasserfall waterfall and the Dalfazer Wasserfall Klettersteig via ferrata at 1.69 kilometers from the start. There are also picnic sites along the trail, perfect for a relaxing break.
