This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route will take you to the stunning Cabane d´Aygues Cluses in the Porteilh–Aygues Cluses area. With a total distance of 19.099 kilometers and an elevation gain of 951 meters, this challenging hike is not for the faint of heart.
Starting from the parking area at the trailhead, you will venture into the wilderness, passing by the Toue de La Pègue shelter at around 7.9 kilometers from the start. Along the way, you will come across the historic ruins of Cabanes de La Gaubie at approximately 4.5 kilometers into the hike.
As you continue on the trail, you will encounter the beautiful Lac de Coueyla-Gran at around 9.55 kilometers from the start. Although it is not directly on the trail, it is worth a visit for its scenic views. Make sure to visit the Source du lac de Coueyla-Gran spring nearby for a refreshing stop.
At the end of the journey, you will reach the Cabane d´Aygues Cluses wilderness hut, offering a cozy retreat in the midst of nature. You can relax and recharge before starting your journey back to the trailhead.
