This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route on the Route du Raché offers a challenging and rewarding experience for avid hikers. The 14.464 km trail features a total elevation gain of 354.0 meters and is estimated to take around 4 hours and 13 minutes to complete.
Starting at the trailhead, hikers will immediately be immersed in the natural beauty of the area. Along the route, you will encounter several points of interest. At the beginning of the trail, you will find a parking area where you can leave your vehicle before setting off on your adventure. As you continue, you will come across the stunning Grotte de L'Espalungue, a cave entrance that is worth exploring.
Midway through the hike, you will reach the Cascade supérieure de l'Espalungue, a picturesque waterfall that is perfect for a rest stop and some scenic views. Further along the trail, you will also come across the Cascade inférieure de l'Espalungue, another beautiful waterfall to admire.
As you near the end of the route, you will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the area at the Encorbellement du Mail de Couret, an archaeological site that provides insight into the region's past. Finally, at the trail's endpoint, you will reach the Col d'Ichère, a saddle that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
Although this hike is challenging, the diverse range of points of interest along the way makes it a truly memorable experience.
