This hiking route takes you through the stunning landscape of the Aritzbakar region, offering a challenging yet rewarding outdoor adventure. With a total distance of 16.623 kilometers and an elevation gain of 428 meters, this trail is classified as extremely difficult and is recommended for experienced hikers.
As you start your journey, you will come across Izarpe Camping, a cozy campsite located right at the beginning of the trail, providing a perfect starting point for your outdoor excursion. Not far from the campsite, you will find a convenient parking area at a distance of 20.782 meters from the trail.
Venturing further into the hike, at around 3.61 kilometers from the start, you will reach the picturesque peak of Mindegi, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. As you continue your ascent, you'll encounter the historic Dolmen Angaiza archaeological site, adding a touch of cultural significance to your hike.
Midway through the trail, approximately 7.55 kilometers from the starting point, you'll reach the peak of Maribizkar, followed by the peaks of Arangaitz at 7.88 kilometers and Aritzbakar at 8.31 kilometers. These peaks provide a challenging yet exhilarating climb, rewarding you with stunning vistas at the summit.
Before you head back, be sure to stop by the shelter of San Bartolomé de Gorostieta at 6.9 kilometers from the start, offering a restful place to refuel and recharge. Additionally, the Ermita de San Bartolomé de Gorostieta wayside shrine at 6.92 kilometers and the information point at 1.69 kilometers provide interesting cultural insights along the way.
