This extremely difficult circular hiking route will take you to the stunning Pico de Samelar area. The trail spans 13.693 kilometers in distance and includes an elevation gain of 929 meters, making it a challenging journey that will take approximately 5 hours and 29 minutes to complete. Before embarking on this adventure, be sure to pack plenty of water, snacks, and check the weather forecast.
As you begin your hike, you'll come across the Jitu de Escarandi parking area, where you can leave your vehicle before starting the trek. Approximately 3.14 kilometers into the hike, you'll reach the Refugio Casetón de Ándara alpine hut, which offers a cozy resting spot and accommodation for weary hikers.
Along the way, you'll encounter various points of interest such as the Torca de la Mina Tere and Torca de la Mazarrasa cave entrances, as well as the Fuente de La Escalera spring where you can refill your water supply. Keep an eye out for the ruins at the 4.5 kilometer mark, which offer a glimpse into the area's historic past.
As you continue on the trail, you'll pass by the Pico de Samelar peak at the 6.82 kilometer mark, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Further along, you'll reach the Collado de San Carlos saddle at 5.92 kilometers, followed by the Collado de Trasmacondíu saddle at 3.89 kilometers.
Before completing the hike, be sure to visit the Collada de Andara saddle at the 4.1 kilometer mark, offering a picturesque spot for a rest before you head back to the starting point. This challenging route is not for the faint of heart, but the stunning scenery and unique points of interest along the way make it a truly unforgettable hiking experience in the Pico de Samelar area.
