This hiking route to Pico de Espluca Ruego is in an extremely difficult terrain with a distance of 14.909 kilometers and an elevation gain of 674 meters. It is estimated to take around 5 hours and 8 minutes to complete. Before setting out on this challenging hike, make sure to pack plenty of water and snacks, and check the weather forecast.
Starting from the parking area at the trailhead, you will come across informational panels (Paneles informativos) providing insight into the surrounding area. As you progress along the trail, you will reach a wilderness hut named Refugio Montarruego (ó Barbietos) approximately 1.53 kilometers from the start, where you can take a break and enjoy the rustic accommodation.
Continuing on, at around 7.22 kilometers into the hike, you will reach Espluca Ruego, a saddle offering panoramic views of the landscape. This is a great spot to rest and take in the breathtaking scenery before pushing on towards your destination. Just a bit further ahead, at 7.45 kilometers, you will find the peak of Pico de Espluca Ruego, which marks the turnaround point of this out-and-back route.
On the return journey, you can stop by Fuente de Petramula, a spring located 0.43 kilometers from the start, to refill your water supply. Additionally, there is a cave entrance (Cave Entrance) and another spring (Spring) at the 0.65 kilometer mark, providing interesting diversions along the way.
