Welcome to the Packhorse Track hiking route! This challenging 8.526-kilometer out-and-back trail is known for its stunning views and historic landmarks.
Starting at the parking area, you'll pass by Carsphairn Shop & Tearooms and Greystones, where you can refuel with some delicious treats before continuing on. Around the 1-kilometer mark, you'll come across a memorial site, offering a moment of reflection on the area's history.
As you trek further, at the 4.01-kilometer mark, you'll reach a cairn, a perfect spot to take in panoramic views of the surroundings. Just a bit further, at 4.26 kilometers, you'll find a viewpoint offering another perspective of the landscape.
Midway through the trail, at 4.24 kilometers, you'll encounter the remains of stone crosses, a captivating archaeological site that adds to the trail's historical allure. Nearby, at 3.92 kilometers, you'll find a Bronze Age round cairn, providing a glimpse into the ancient past of the area.
Before heading back, don't miss Preacher Knowe viewpoint at 0.14 kilometers from the start, offering a last chance to soak in the picturesque scenery. Additionally, benches and informational points are available along the trail for resting and learning more about the surroundings.
