Welcome to the Saioa hiking route! Nestled in the picturesque landscape of the Saioa mountain range, this 12.812-kilometer circular trail offers breathtaking views and a challenging trek for experienced hikers.
Starting off at the Belateko mendatea / Puerto de Belate, you'll be greeted with a gentle ascent at the beginning of the trail. As you make your way through the rugged terrain, you'll come across the stunning peaks of Saioa and Azkenatz, offering panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness.
Midway through the hike, you'll encounter the Túmulo Okolingo Lepoa, an ancient archaeological site that provides a glimpse into the area's rich history. Further along the trail, you'll also pass by the Dolmen Matrakola and Dolmen Azkenazko Lepoa, adding a cultural element to your outdoor adventure.
As you reach the peak of Okolin, prepare yourself for a challenging yet rewarding climb. The elevation gain of 664 meters adds an extra layer of difficulty to this already demanding hike, so be sure to come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear.
Towards the end of the trail, you'll pass by the Cromlechs Gatzagako Lepoa and Menhir Ermitako Lepoa, before making your descent back to the starting point.
