This extremely difficult hiking route, known as Schmittenweg, covers a distance of approximately 12.7 kilometers with an elevation gain of 774 meters, taking around 4 hours and 52 minutes to complete. The trail is an out-and-back type, starting at a parking area.
Embark on this challenging journey through the picturesque landscape, filled with stunning viewpoints and facilities to rest and replenish. At the beginning of the trail, you will find the Jaga-Alm restaurant just 0.01 kilometers away, perfect for grabbing a meal before starting your adventure. As you trek further, at around 5.95 kilometers, there is a shelter available for hikers to take a break and relax.
Midway through the hike, at approximately 4.71 kilometers, you will reach the Sonnkogel Alm alpine hut, offering a cozy accommodation option surrounded by nature. Along the way, you'll encounter several benches for resting and enjoying the scenic surroundings, such as the ones at 6.12 and 5.95 kilometers.
For nature enthusiasts, there are two peaks, Salersbachköpfl and Schrambachkopf (Sonnkogel), located a bit off the trail at 5.75 and 4.71 kilometers respectively, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the area.
