This challenging out-and-back hiking route will take you to Cerro Challhuaco in the stunning area of Laguna Verde Valle del Challhuaco.
As you start your journey, you will come across Laguna Verde, a picturesque water feature located about 1.27 kilometers from the trail. Further along the trail at approximately 1.1 kilometers, you will encounter another water point. Make sure to refill your water bottles here as the hike is difficult and hydration is crucial.
At a distance of around 0.08 kilometers from the start, you will find Ex Refugio Newmeyer, a shelter where you can rest and recharge before continuing your adventure. The shelter offers amenities and can be a great spot to take a break.
As you make your way towards Cerro Challhuaco, you will pass by a parking area located right on the trail, making it convenient for hikers. At about 3.62 kilometers into the hike, you will reach the peak of Cerro Challhuaco, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area.
With a total distance of 7.245 kilometers and an elevation gain of 767 meters, this hike is not for the faint of heart. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear. It is also advisable to check the weather forecast before embarking on this adventure, as conditions can change quickly in the mountains.
