This hiking route takes you through the beautiful mountainous area surrounding Rifugio Fratelli Calvi. The trail starts at an elevation of 1153 meters and climbs up to 2001 meters at the destination. The total distance of the hike is 14.66 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1503 meters, making it a moderately difficult hike.
Along the way, you will encounter several points of interest. After about 3 kilometers, you will come across the picturesque Lago Cernello, followed by Lago Rotondo at 7 kilometers. These serene alpine lakes provide a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the scenery.
Around the 7-kilometer mark, you will reach Rifugio Fratelli Calvi, where you can rest and refuel before continuing your journey. The rifugio is open continuously from June to September and on holidays and weekends from May to June and September to November.
As you hike further, you will pass by Baita Cernello, a wilderness hut offering rustic accommodation for hikers. Additionally, there are multiple water points along the trail to refill your bottles and stay hydrated.
At 5 kilometers into the hike, you will reach Passo di Portula, a scenic saddle point offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Make sure to stop and take in the breathtaking vistas.
