This extremely difficult 13.5 km out-and-back hiking route in Nendaz offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for avid hikers. The trail starts from a parking area near Lac de Cleuson and takes you through stunning alpine landscapes with a total elevation gain of 766 meters.
As you begin your journey, you will pass by the beautiful Lac du Grand Désert located approximately 4.24 km from the start. This tranquil lake is a perfect spot to take a break and admire the surrounding natural beauty.
Continuing on, you will come across the Refuge de Saint-Laurent, an alpine hut situated 3.23 km into the hike. This is a great place to rest and recharge before tackling the remaining distance.
Around the 6.05 km mark, you will find an information point offering insights about the area, providing valuable knowledge about the local flora and fauna.
Further along the trail, at the 6.77 km mark, you will encounter another picturesque water feature, perfect for refilling your water supply and enjoying a moment of serenity.
As you approach the end of the hike, you will pass by the Lac du Grand Désert once again, allowing you to take in its beauty one more time before heading back to the starting point.
Please note that this hike is considered extremely difficult due to its length, elevation gain, and challenging terrain. It is important to come prepared with plenty of water, snacks, appropriate gear, and to check the weather forecast before setting out.
