You are about to embark on a challenging hike along the Chemin du Lac Bersau trail. This 11.7-kilometer route offers stunning views and is perfect for experienced hikers looking for a good workout.
The trail starts at Estación de Esquí Astún, where you can park your car before setting off. As you begin your journey, you will pass by Borne 309, a historic boundary stone located 3.1 kilometers from the start. This is a great spot to learn about the area's history and take some photos.
Continuing on, at 2.28 kilometers from the start, you will come across Ibón de Escalar, a beautiful mountain lake where you can take a break and admire the scenery. Further along the trail, around the 5.5-kilometer mark, you will find several other water features, including ponds and springs.
As you reach the midway point of the hike, you will encounter Col des Moines, a natural saddle that offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. This is a great spot to rest and refuel before heading back.
Throughout the hike, you will also come across informative signposts and a quaint cafe where you can stop for a snack. Just remember to bring plenty of water, as this is a strenuous hike with a 731-meter elevation gain.
