This hiking route takes you to the Refuge d'Aygues-Cluses in the Porteilh–Aygues Cluses area, offering a challenging yet rewarding experience for outdoor enthusiasts. The trail covers a distance of 10.69 kilometers with an elevation gain of 594 meters, making it a difficult trek that requires a moderate level of fitness.
Starting at the designated parking area, you'll pass by the historic Cabanes de La Gaubie ruins just 0.4 kilometers into the hike. As you continue on the trail, you'll come across the Toue de La Pègue shelter at around 3.83 kilometers from the start, providing a resting spot for hikers to take a break and enjoy the surroundings.
Around the midway point of the hike, at 5.35 kilometers from the start, you'll find the Cabane d´Aygues Cluses wilderness hut, offering accommodation for those looking to extend their adventure. There are also water sources located nearby, with one at 5.35 kilometers and another at 5.33 kilometers from the start, ensuring hikers stay hydrated throughout the journey.
While the trail is not directly on the route, the Refuge d'Aygues-Cluses is the ultimate destination of this out-and-back hike, located at the end of the trail. Please note that the refuge is still under construction, so it's advisable to check for updates before planning your visit.
