This challenging hiking route takes you to the iconic Monte Paterno - Paternkofel in the beautiful area of the Italian Dolomites. The trail is an out-and-back route with a total distance of 10.397 kilometers and an elevation gain of 331 meters, making it a difficult but rewarding trek.
As you start your journey, you will pass by a parking area at the beginning of the trail. About 3.99 kilometers into the hike, you will come across the Dreizinnenhütte - Rifugio Locatelli alle Tre Cime, where you can take a break and enjoy a meal at the restaurant or even stay overnight at the alpine hut.
Continuing on, you will encounter Rifugio Auronzo, a limited wheelchair accessible alpine hut located 0.08 kilometers from the trail. Further along, at 1.71 kilometers from the starting point, you'll find Rifugio Lavaredo, another alpine hut and restaurant where you can refuel and rest before continuing your journey.
One of the highlights of the hike is reaching the peak of Monte Paterno - Paternkofel, which is 5.2 kilometers from the start. Along the way, you'll also pass by Passportenscharte and Forcella del Camoscio - Gamsscharte, both natural saddles offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
