The hike to Magerstein is an extremely difficult 13.946-kilometer out-and-back route with an elevation gain of 1628 meters, taking approximately 7 hours and 17 minutes to complete.
The trail starts at a parking area and leads hikers through a challenging but rewarding journey. Along the way, you will come across various points of interest. At the beginning of the trail, you will find a restaurant called Säge, where you can grab a bite to eat before starting your adventure. About 3.14 kilometers into the hike, there is a water source for refilling your bottles.
As you continue on, you will pass by the Jausenstation Säge restaurant and later the Kasseler Hütte alpine hut where you can take a break and enjoy some local cuisine. The trail also leads you to the peak of Tristennöckl, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
Throughout the hike, you will come across several information points providing insights into the area's history and natural features. Additionally, you will encounter a wayside cross and a viewpoint overlooking the Tristenbach Wasserfall.
The Magerstein peak is the highlight of the journey, standing tall at the end of the trail. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure.
