This extremely difficult 12.952-kilometer out-and-back hike takes you through the beautiful Mountain Road Trail area. The trail has an elevation gain of 453 meters and is estimated to take around 4 hours and 7 minutes to complete.
As you start your hike, you will come across some interesting points of interest along the way. At the beginning of the trail, you will find a beach located just 80 meters away, perfect for a quick rest stop or a dip in the water. Further along the trail, about 2.69 kilometers from the start, there is a shelter where you can take a break and enjoy a snack.
About 3.27 kilometers from the start, you will reach South Peak, a prominent peak in the area offering stunning views of the surroundings. Just a bit further, at 3.98 kilometers, is Sunapee Mountain, although it is slightly off the main trail.
Around the midway point of the hike, at 4.26 kilometers, you will reach Lake Solitude, a serene lake where you can relax and take in the peaceful surroundings. Continuing on, at 4.1 kilometers, you will come across the White Cliff overlook, offering panoramic views of the area.
As you near the end of the trail, approximately 6.48 kilometers from the start, there is a viewpoint offering a unique perspective of the landscape. Finally, at the trailhead, there is a restaurant called Bubba's Bar & Grille where you can grab a meal and reflect on your challenging hike.
Due to the length and elevation gain of this hike, it is recommended to bring plenty of water and snacks. Additionally, check the weather forecast before heading out to ensure a safe and enjoyable hiking experience.
