Located in a remote and rugged area, the hike to Arenig Fawr is a challenging 13.146-kilometer out-and-back route that offers stunning views and historical landmarks. With an elevation gain of 503 meters, this trek is classified as extremely difficult and should only be attempted by experienced hikers.

As you start your journey, you will come across a parking area at the beginning of the trail. Make sure to bring plenty of water and snacks as there are limited facilities along the way. Continuing on, at the 6.57-kilometer mark, you will encounter the Flying Fortress Crash memorial, a somber reminder of a historic event that took place in August 1943. Nearby, you will also spot the peaks of Arenig Fawr and Foel Bodrenig, offering panoramic views of the surrounding wilderness.

Further along the trail, approximately 2.21 kilometers from the start, you will pass by Moel y Garth peak before reaching the Arenig Fawr Bothy at 3.68 kilometers. This wilderness hut serves as a shelter for weary hikers and a place to rest before heading back.
