This difficult out-and-back hiking route takes you to the scenic area of Crête NW Grand Colon. The trail spans approximately 7.9 kilometers with an elevation gain of 836 meters, making it a challenging but rewarding trek for experienced hikers.
As you start your journey, you will come across a wilderness hut called Baraque des Carriers located about 0.72 kilometers from the trailhead. This is a great spot to take a break and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Further along the trail at 1.7 kilometers, you will reach another wilderness hut called Baraque du Colon, providing another opportunity to rest and refuel.
Around the 3.9 kilometer mark, you will reach Lac Merlat, a beautiful lake situated about 151 meters away from the trail. This is a great spot to relax and take in the stunning views of the area. As you continue on, you will pass by a drinking water source at approximately 1.73 kilometers from the start, ensuring you stay hydrated throughout your hike.
At 2.52 kilometers, you will come across a historic wayside cross known as Croix Pourroy, providing a glimpse into the area's cultural heritage. Additionally, a viewpoint can be found at 3.94 kilometers, offering panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape.
