This extremely difficult hiking route will take you to the stunning Pic de Pene Blanque in the Bearn region. The 13.606-kilometer trail offers an elevation gain of 1385 meters and is estimated to take around 6 hours and 36 minutes to complete.
Starting at the Aire de Stationnement de Lamary parking area, you will pass by the Cabane de Lamary wilderness hut around 0.48 kilometers into the hike. This non-guarded hut is a great spot to take a break and enjoy the surroundings. As you continue, you will reach the Abri du Pla d'Escoueste shelter at 1.61 kilometers from the start, providing a good resting point.
Further along the trail, at around 4.3 kilometers in, you will come across the Esqueste saddle, offering breathtaking views of the landscape. Continuing on, at 5.8 kilometers, you will reach the Col de Lhurs, a saddle on the trail, and then the Pic du Col de Lhurs peak at 6.09 kilometers, where you can admire the panoramic views.
The highlight of the hike is reaching the Pic de Pene Blanque peak at 6.8 kilometers. This peak offers stunning views and a sense of accomplishment for reaching the summit. Additionally, along the way, you may encounter Hiru Erregeen Mahaia / Mesa de los Tres Reyes peak and Table / Table des Trois Rois peak.
