This extremely difficult 14.974-kilometer out-and-back hiking route leads to the majestic Pic des Vautours in a beautiful natural setting. The trail starts at the parking area of La Croix d'Atekatea. As you begin your journey, you'll pass by the historic wayside cross of Croix d'Artekatia / Artekateko kürütxea, just 0.02 kilometers from the start.
As you continue on, you'll reach the stunning peak of Pic des Vautours at 7.49 kilometers from the start, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. Moving along, you'll come across the Col d'Oxibar, a natural saddle located 2.03 kilometers from the beginning of the trail.
Keep an eye out for the Idobeltzeko karbia cave entrance at 1.38 kilometers from the start, and the picnic site at 0.24 kilometers away, ideal for a rest or snack break. Along the way, you'll pass by the informational point of Ostsibarremeheka, just 0.02 kilometers from the starting point.
While on the trail, you'll also encounter the Pic Uscutusgagne peak and the Gouffre d'Artekateko Kutxia cave entrance, providing additional points of interest along the route. Please note that the Gouffre d'Artekateko Kutxia cave entrance is a bit off the trail, located 0.41 kilometers from the start.
With an elevation gain of 755 meters, this hike is considered extremely difficult and is recommended for experienced hikers. Make sure to bring plenty of water, wear sturdy hiking shoes, and check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure to Pic des Vautours.
