This challenging hiking route will take you to the picturesque Tiefrastenhütte in the beautiful mountainous area. The total distance of the hike is 10.511 kilometers with an elevation gain of 874 meters, so be prepared for a strenuous journey that will last approximately 4 hours and 37 minutes.
Starting at the Winnebachtal parking lot, you will begin your ascent towards Tiefrastenhütte. Along the way, you will pass by the Hexenstein, a local attraction that is just under 1 kilometer from the starting point. As you continue your trek, you will encounter a spring at 3.48 kilometers from the start, where you can refresh and refill your water supply.
At around 5.26 kilometers into the hike, you will reach the Tiefrastensee (Lago della Pausa), a tranquil water body perfect for a short rest and photo opportunity. Nearby, you will find the Tiefrastenhütte, a cozy alpine hut and restaurant where you can refuel with some delicious food and drinks. This hut also serves as a great accommodation option for those looking to extend their stay in the mountains.
On your way back, consider stopping at the Astnerbergalm, another restaurant and alpine hut located 1.6 kilometers from the start, to relax and enjoy the mountain views.
Throughout the hike, you will have the opportunity to appreciate the historic ruins, benches, and stone structures scattered along the trail. Keep an eye out for the Steinmännchen, a rock formation that is 1.3 kilometers from the start.
