This hiking route takes you through a beautiful area with a total distance of 9.069 kilometers and an elevation gain of 596 meters, making it a difficult but rewarding trek. The estimated duration for this hike is around 3 hours and 35 minutes, so be prepared for a challenging adventure.
Starting at the parking area, you will begin your journey towards the Sistema del Hayal de Ponata cave entrance, located approximately 3.27 kilometers from the start. As you continue along the trail, you will pass by La Barrerilla saddle at the 2.7-kilometer mark, offering a picturesque view of the surroundings.
Further along the route, at approximately 1.5 kilometers from the start, you will come across the Piedra El Cojo memorial, adding a touch of historic significance to your hike. The trail will then lead you to Cuevallana cave entrance and Las Hayas cave entrance, both located further away from the main path, at distances of 2.2 and 3.14 kilometers, respectively.
Midway through the hike, at the 2.6-kilometer mark, you will find the Los Nudos drinking water point, providing a much-needed refreshment spot along the way. As you progress, be sure to take in the sights of Mojón Alto peak at 4.25 kilometers from the start, offering a stunning panoramic view of the area.
Towards the end of the hike, you will encounter the Hayal de Ponata cave entrance at 3.23 kilometers from the start, providing a final point of interest before completing the circular route. It is recommended to bring an ample water supply, wear appropriate hiking gear, and check the weather forecast before embarking on this challenging adventure.
