This challenging 8.25-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the stunning Lac des Vaches in the picturesque area. The trail begins at Parking des Fontanettes, where you can leave your vehicle before embarking on your adventure.
As you start your hike, you will come across several points of interest along the way. About 0.06 kilometers from the start, you will find a cozy cafe where you can grab a quick snack or beverage to fuel your journey. Continuing on, at approximately 1.81 kilometers from the start, you will reach the Refuge des Barmettes, an alpine hut offering accommodation for weary hikers.
Midway through your hike, at around 4.13 kilometers from the start, you will arrive at the beautiful Lac des Vaches, a serene alpine lake that is perfect for a rest stop or a picnic. Make sure to refill your water bottles at the drinking water point located 1.83 kilometers from the start to stay hydrated throughout your hike.
As you make your way back, you can also visit other points of interest such as wayside crosses, picnic sites, and information points that provide insights into the area's history and natural surroundings.
With a total elevation gain of 648 meters, this hike is considered difficult and is recommended for experienced hikers. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and sunscreen, as well as to check the weather forecast before setting out. And don't forget to take your camera to capture the breathtaking views along the way.
