Welcome to the Tête Rouge hiking route! This extremely difficult out-and-back trail spans 12.566 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1020 meters, making it a challenging but rewarding adventure for experienced hikers.
The hike starts at a parking area near Refuge de Plaisance, a cozy alpine hut just a short distance from the trail. As you begin your journey, you'll pass by Cascade du Py, a picturesque waterfall located 0.48 kilometers from the trail. Be sure to stop and admire the natural beauty along the way.
Further along the trail, at 2.67 kilometers from the start, you will reach Col de Plan Séry, a scenic saddle offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. This is a great spot to take a break and soak in the alpine scenery.
As you continue hiking, you'll come across Bienvenue sur le sentier glaciologique, an information point located at the trailhead. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the local geography and glacial features.
At the midway point of the hike, 6.13 kilometers from the start, you'll encounter another saddle called Couloir Noir, providing another stunning vantage point of the landscape. From here, you can see Montagne de la Vallaisonnay, a peak located 3.0 kilometers off the trail.
Towards the end of the trail, at 6.28 kilometers from the start, you'll reach Tête Rouge, another peak offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. This is the perfect spot to take in the beauty of the mountains before starting your journey back.
