This challenging out-and-back hiking route takes you to the beautiful area of Pian d'Ortica. The trail covers a distance of approximately 9.9 kilometers with an elevation gain of 738 meters, making it a difficult trek that will take around 4 hours and 8 minutes to complete.
As you begin your journey, you will come across a convenient parking area right at the trailhead. From there, you will pass by a drinking water stop at midway to refill your bottles. Further along the trail, at about 1.6 kilometers from the start, you will encounter the historic Grotta di San Pier Damiani, a wayside shrine and cave entrance worth exploring.
Continuing on, at around 2.5 kilometers into the hike, you will reach the intriguing Grotta del Canale, another cave entrance to marvel at. As you venture deeper into the route, you will find the Riparo naturale shelter at 2.76 kilometers from the starting point, providing a resting spot with a scenic view.
The highlight of the hike is reaching the Pian d'Ortica peak at approximately 4.97 kilometers from the start. Take in the breathtaking panoramic views before heading back the same way you came.
