This hiking route takes you through the picturesque area of Sassopiano. The trail is 4.522 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 319 meters, making it a moderate difficulty hike. It is an out-and-back trail, so you will retrace your steps on the way back.
As you start your journey, you will come across various points of interest along the trail. At the beginning, you will find a parking area and an information point called "Mappa sentieri." Further along the trail, you will discover historic sites such as the Eremo delle Carceri, a monastery, and Fra Rufino and Fra Masseo cave entrances. Take a moment to appreciate the wayside cross and shrine at the midway point of the hike.
As you continue on, you will pass by the San Francesco memorial and the Sasso Piano information point. Be sure to hydrate at the "Le Tre fontane" drinking water station located 0.84 kilometers from the start. Enjoy the scenic views from the Sassopiano peak and picnic sites along the way.
