This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route takes you to the breathtaking Hirzkarseelein in the Dachstein region. With a total distance of 14.589 kilometers and an elevation gain of 1459 meters, this hike is not for the faint of heart.
Starting at the trailhead, you will pass by the Parkplatz P3 parking area at the beginning of the route. As you make your way up the trail, you will encounter the Seewand Klettersteig via ferrata, offering a thrilling climbing experience along the steep cliffs.
Midway through the hike, you will reach the Hirzkarseelein, a beautiful alpine lake surrounded by stunning mountain views. Take a moment to rest and soak in the serene atmosphere before continuing on.
Along the way, you may also come across the Kessel cave entrance and various information points providing insight into the local area. Make sure to check out the Gjaidalm alpine hut for a well-deserved break and maybe even a delicious meal.
As you hike back towards the starting point, consider exploring the climbing areas near the trail, such as the ones at Parkplatz Strandbad. Keep an eye out for the peaks of Hirzkarkogel, Mittlerer Schönbühel, and Äußerer Schönbühel which offer awe-inspiring panoramic views.
