Welcome to the hiking route to Karstein Peak! This challenging and extremely difficult out-and-back trail covers a distance of 12.436 kilometers with an elevation gain of 870 meters. The estimated duration for this hike is approximately 5 hours and 3 minutes.

The trail starts at Alpengasthof Hochkogl, where you can park your vehicle before setting off on your adventure. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear as this trail will take you through some steep and rocky terrain.

As you make your way up the trail, you'll come across several points of interest. Approximately 1.1 kilometers from the start, you'll find a water source followed by another at 1.28 kilometers. These can be perfect spots to refill your water bottles and take a short break.

At around 4.94 kilometers into the hike, you'll reach Birg Schafalpe, a shelter where you can rest and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Continuing onwards, you'll encounter Hochkogel viewpoint and Karstein Peak, both offering breathtaking panoramic views of the area.

Karstein Peak, the destination of this hike, is located at approximately 6.22 kilometers from the starting point. Take your time to admire the scenery before retracing your steps back to Alpengasthof Hochkogl.
