This extremely difficult 20.16-kilometer circular hiking route will take you from Riederalp to Märjelensee and back. The elevation gain is 1290 meters, so be prepared for a challenging but rewarding trek.
Starting in Riederalp, you will first pass by Märjalen-Stausee at around the 7-kilometer mark. This beautiful water feature is located just off the trail, offering a serene spot to take a break and enjoy the surroundings.
Continuing on, you will reach Gletscherstube Märjelen, an alpine hut located about 7.37 kilometers into the hike. Here, you can rest and refuel before continuing your journey.
As you make your way towards Märjelensee, you will encounter several other water points along the trail, perfect for filling up your water bottle and taking in the scenic views.
At around the 8-kilometer mark, you will reach Märjelensee, a stunning alpine lake that is definitely worth the hike. Take some time to relax by the lake and soak in the beauty of the Swiss Alps.
Throughout the hike, you will also come across several information points, benches, and picnic sites where you can learn more about the area and take a well-deserved break.
For those interested in climbing, there is a climbing garden called Klettergarten Burgwand located around the 3-kilometer mark from the start of the hike.
