This extremely difficult 16.384-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the stunning Cuchillar de Rueda in Quirós. The trail offers a challenging elevation gain of 1381 meters, making it not suitable for inexperienced hikers.
The hike starts at a parking area located right by the trailhead. As you begin your journey, you'll pass by the beautiful spring called El Duernu'l Zarral, a perfect spot to take a break and freshen up around the 7.29-kilometer mark.
Continuing on, you will come across the saddle known as Cuḷḷá Fontes, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Further along the trail, at around the 2.69-kilometer mark, you'll find the refreshing spring called La Fontona, a great place to refill your water bottles.
As you make your way towards the peak of Peña Rueda, you'll encounter the peak of Fuente'l Cabezu at approximately 1.5 kilometers from the start. This is a good spot to rest and enjoy the panoramic views before tackling the remaining ascent.
Finally, at the summit of Peña Rueda, you'll be rewarded with unparalleled views of the area, including nearby peaks and valleys. Take your time to soak in the beauty of the surroundings before heading back the way you came.
