This hiking route takes you through the stunning area of Gravures rupestres de la vallée des Merveilles and the region of Mont Bégo in France. The trail is an out-and-back type, starting at the Chemin de l'Arpette.
The route covers a distance of 6.765 kilometers with an elevation gain of 250 meters, making it a moderate difficulty hike. It takes approximately 2 hours and 11 minutes to complete.
As you start your journey, you will come across the Lac Long Inférieur, a beautiful water body right at the beginning of the trail. Further along, at a distance of 0.92 kilometers from the start, you will find the picturesque Lac Mouton. This is a perfect spot to take a break and enjoy the serene surroundings.
Midway through the hike, at around 2.52 kilometers from the start, you will reach the stunning Lac des Merveilles. This lake offers a breathtaking view and is a great photo opportunity. Nearby, you will also find the Refuge des Merveilles, an alpine hut where you can rest and refuel with some snacks.
As you continue on the trail, you will encounter various points of interest such as the Stèle du chef de tribu, Le "Christ", Roche de "l'Eclat", Paroi Vitrifiee, and Roche "Vandalisee". These archaeological sites add a historical touch to your hike and provide insights into the area's rich past.
Towards the end of the route, at a distance of 3.38 kilometers from the start, you will reach the Gravures rupestres de la vallée des Merveilles, known for its ancient rock engravings. Take your time to explore and appreciate this unique cultural heritage.
