This hiking route to Pico de Astún offers a challenging but rewarding experience in the beautiful natural surroundings. The 8.293-kilometer trail has an elevation gain of 579 meters, making it a difficult hike that will take about 3 hours and 22 minutes to complete.
Starting at the Estación de Esquí Astún parking area, you will begin your journey towards Pico de Astún. Along the way, you will come across several points of interest. About midway through the trail, you will find the Borne 309 boundary stone, a historic landmark that is 4.08 meters away from the trail. Further ahead, at a distance of 2.28 kilometers from the start, you will reach the stunning Ibón de Escalar, a picturesque water body where you can take a moment to rest and admire the scenery.
As you continue on, you will encounter the Col des Moines saddle, located 3.1 kilometers from the start, as well as the informational Col des Moines marker nearby. A little further along the trail, at 4.15 kilometers from the start, you will reach the summit of Pico de Astún, a peak offering breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area.
For amenities along the trail, there is a cafe located 0.53 kilometers from the start, where you can refuel and take a break. Additionally, there is a spring 2.48 kilometers from the start, providing fresh water for hikers.
