Located in a historical and archaeological rich area, the Umm Al-Biyara Trail is a moderate 5.3 km out-and-back hiking route that offers stunning viewpoints and visits to various attractions along the way. The trail has an elevation gain of 223 meters, making it a moderately challenging hike that takes approximately 1 hour and 47 minutes to complete.
Starting at the parking area, hikers will begin their journey towards the trail, passing by the Basin Restaurant for a quick sustenance stop. Along the trail, you'll come across the Blue Chapel, North Ridge Church, Altar, and Temple of the Winged Lions, all within the first kilometer of the hike. These archaeological sites offer a glimpse into the area's rich history and cultural significance.
As you continue on the trail, you'll encounter the Ad Deir (Monastery) and قصر البنت (Qasr Al-Bint), both attractions that are worth exploring and learning about. The trail also leads you to the Lion Triclinium and the Beautiful view over the Great Temple viewpoint, providing incredible panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
For those looking for a quick break, the Lonely Cafe is a great spot to grab a drink before continuing your hike. As you near the end of the trail, you'll pass by the Small Temple and the Unknown archaeological site, adding to the historical immersion of the hike.
