Welcome to the hiking route to El Dinosaurio on the Camino Sur de la Maliciosa. This trail offers a 5.6 km round trip with an elevation gain of 485 meters, making it a moderately difficult hike that will take around 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
The route starts at the parking area located right at the trailhead. As you begin your journey, you will soon come across the Embalse del Pueblo de Navacerrada, a beautiful water reservoir just 0.09 km from the start. Continuing on, at around 1.5 km into the hike, you will reach the Peñotillo Bajo peak, offering panoramic views of the surrounding area. As you climb higher, you will encounter Fuente de la Casa de Guías, a natural spring located 0.08 km from the trail. It's a good idea to fill up your water bottles here before continuing on.
Further along the trail, you will pass by several other peaks, including some saddles along the way. Be sure to take in the breathtaking views as you make your way to the highlight of the hike, El Dinosaurio rock formation, located at 2.56 km from the start. This unique rock formation is a must-see on this route.
As you head back towards the starting point, you can stop by Fuente de La Barranca, another spring located 0.16 km from the trail. Remember to stay hydrated throughout the hike and check the weather forecast before setting out.
