This extremely difficult 14.5-kilometer circular hiking route will take you through the stunning Monte Forato / Prestreljenik area. The trail offers a challenging elevation gain of 1361 meters and is estimated to take around 6 hours and 45 minutes to complete.
As you start your hike, you will come across the Vodni vir spring just 1.1 kilometers from the beginning. Make sure to refill your water bottles here as this will be the last water source for a while. Further along the trail at 2.25 kilometers, you will find the Bivak gorskih reševalcev shelter, providing a great resting spot to enjoy the surrounding views.
Continuing on, at 5.21 kilometers, you will reach the Dom Petra Skalarja alpine hut, where you can take a longer break and maybe even grab a bite to eat. The trail also passes by some peaks such as Kojnc at 5.14 kilometers and Mala Gnila glava at 4.12 kilometers, offering panoramic views of the area.
Throughout the hike, you will encounter various points of interest such as ruins, saddles, and natural landmarks like Forcella della Torre del Forato and Prestreljeniška škrbina. Be sure to keep an eye out for these attractions along the way.
It is advised to bring plenty of water, snacks, and wear proper hiking gear as this trail is quite demanding.
