Welcome to the hiking route on Chemin Bélaube! This extremely difficult 14.656-kilometer out-and-back trail offers a challenging yet rewarding experience for hikers.
Starting at the parking area, make sure to check the forecast before heading out and bring plenty of water as this hike will take approximately 4 hours and 16 minutes to complete. The trail begins with a gradual ascent, passing by the archaeological site of Encorbellement du Mail de Couret, which is located about 0.31 kilometers from the start.
As you continue on the trail, you'll come across the Grotte de L'Espalungue, a cave entrance situated 2.82 kilometers from the start. Further along, you'll encounter the Cascade supérieure de l'Espalungue and Cascade inférieure de l'Espalungue waterfalls, which are located 3.13 and 2.92 kilometers from the start, respectively.
Throughout the hike, there are several water sources conveniently located along the trail, with the closest one being 0.58 kilometers from the start. These water points provide an opportunity to refill your water supply and take a short break before continuing on the challenging terrain.
Reaching the highest point of the trail at Col d'Ichère, approximately 4.6 kilometers from the start, offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area. From there, you'll begin your descent back towards the starting point, passing by various water sources and landmarks along the way.
