Located in the stunning Pyrenees mountains, this extremely difficult 16.5-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will challenge even the most experienced hikers. With an elevation gain of 1479 meters, this trail offers breathtaking views and a true wilderness experience.
Starting at the trailhead, hikers will pass by a parking area before embarking on their adventure. As you make your way along the trail, you'll encounter a variety of points of interest. Approximately 1.2 kilometers from the start, you'll come across the Cabane de La Plagne, a shelter where you can take a break and enjoy the surrounding nature. Further along the trail, at the 2.98-kilometer mark, you'll reach the Refuge de Sans - Biros, another shelter offering a place to rest and refuel.
At the 7.57-kilometer mark, you'll find the Cabane de l'Étang d'Araing - Castillonais, a wilderness hut where you can spend the night if you choose to extend your hike. Continuing on, at around 8.22 kilometers, you'll encounter the Source piste Bentaillou, a natural spring providing fresh mountain water.
As you push on towards the turn-around point, you'll reach the Refuge Jacques Husson at the 8.23-kilometer mark. This alpine hut offers a cozy place to rest and enjoy a meal before heading back.
Throughout the hike, you'll also come across historical points of interest such as the ruins of an ancient bocard and a wayside cross. Additionally, a stunning waterfall awaits you at approximately 1.9 kilometers from the start, providing a refreshing and picturesque stop along the way.
