This extremely difficult 16.457-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will lead you through the stunning alpine landscape of the Pyrenees. The trail starts at a parking area located at the trailhead. As you begin your journey, you will pass by the ruins of an ancient bocard, offering a glimpse into the area's historic past.
As you make your way along the trail, you will come across several points of interest. About 1.77 kilometers from the start, you will find a refreshing natural spring, perfect for a quick rest and refill of your water supply. Further along, at the 7.57-kilometer mark, you will encounter the wilderness hut known as Cabane de l'Étang d'Araing - Castillonais, where you can take a break and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
One of the highlights of the hike is the stunning waterfall located at the 1.9-kilometer mark, offering a picturesque spot to capture some photos and enjoy the serenity of the area. At the 4.9-kilometer mark, you will come across a wayside cross, adding a touch of historic charm to your adventure.
Midway through the hike, at the 8.22-kilometer mark, you will find another natural spring to quench your thirst. For those looking to extend their hike, the Refuge Jacques Husson is located at the 8.23-kilometer mark, offering a cozy alpine hut for an overnight stay.
With a total elevation gain of 1479 meters, this hike is not for the faint of heart. Make sure to bring plenty of water, snacks, and proper hiking gear.
