This extremely difficult 13.485-kilometer out-and-back hiking route will take you to the majestic Pic de Pioulou in the beautiful area of Sabarthes. With an elevation gain of 1333 meters and a duration of approximately 6 hours and 27 minutes, this hike is not for the faint-hearted.
As you start your journey, you will come across the Cabane de l'étang d'Artats at a distance of 3.37 kilometers from the beginning of the trail. This shelter provides a perfect spot to rest and enjoy the surroundings. Moving forward, you will encounter L'Étang d'Artats and Col de Lastris information point at the start of the trail, providing you with interesting insights into the area.
Continuing on, you will reach the Pic de Bassibié, a peak located 5.33 kilometers from the start, offering stunning panoramic views of the surroundings. As you trek further, you will arrive at the Pic de Pioulou, the ultimate destination of this hike, standing majestically at 6.74 kilometers from the beginning of the trail.
Throughout the hike, make sure to stay hydrated by refilling your water bottles at the nearby springs, with one located 3.73 kilometers into the hike and another at 3.4 kilometers. Additionally, the Orri du Bizou shelter, situated just 0.12 kilometers from the start, offers a cozy spot for a break.
