This extremely difficult out-and-back hiking route takes you to Cima Rocca in the stunning mountainous area. The trail covers a distance of 14.48 kilometers with an elevation gain of 1591 meters, so be prepared for a challenging trek that will take around 7 hours and 20 minutes to complete.
As you start your hike, you'll come across a parking area at the beginning of the trail. From there, you'll pass by Pian dela Fontanela, which is located right on the trail at the start. Further along the route, at about 0.81 kilometers from the start, you'll reach an information point where you can learn more about the surrounding area.
Continuing on, at around 4.61 kilometers from the start, you'll encounter a spring where you can refill your water bottle before tackling the remaining distance. As you progress, you'll reach Passo di Val Gelada at 5.36 kilometers from the start, which offers a saddle point for a quick rest.
Further ahead, at about 6.07 kilometers from the start, you'll reach the peak of Cima Sassara, offering stunning panoramic views of the region. Additionally, at 6.41 kilometers from the start, you'll find shelter at Bivacco Fratelli Bonvecchio, providing a place to rest and refuel before the descent.
Continuing on the trail, you'll come across peaks such as Cima Rocca, Cima Paradiso, and Sasso Alto, each offering unique vantage points and a sense of accomplishment as you traverse the rugged terrain.
Throughout the hike, it's essential to bring an adequate water supply, snacks, and proper hiking gear.
