Vieil Armand, also known as Hartmannswillerkopf, is a beautiful area with a rich historical significance. The route is circular, covering a distance of 2.175 kilometers with an elevation gain of 34 meters, making it relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all levels.
As you begin your journey, you will come across several points of interest. At the beginning of the trail, you will find parking facilities for your convenience. As you continue, you will encounter the Autel de la Patrie, a memorial site located 0.17 kilometers from the start.
Midway through your hike, you will reach the Croix pour la Paix en Europe, a wayside cross with historical significance, situated 1.08 kilometers from the starting point. Nearby, you will also find the Vieil Armand peak, which is 1.08 kilometers into the hike.
Along the way, you will come across various attractions such as the Borne Vauthier, Osswaldhutte, Stèle du 28e BCA, Poste Chevassus, and Ziegelruckenstollen. These sites offer a glimpse into the area's history and culture.
As you approach the endpoint of the route, you will be rewarded with stunning viewpoints at different vantage points, including the Poste Moyret and Abri du 2e Génie.
