This hiking route takes you through the beautiful area of GR R2, offering stunning views and a challenging trek. The route is an out-and-back trail with a total distance of 5.593 kilometers and an elevation gain of 791 meters, making it a difficult hike that will test your endurance.
As you start your journey, you will come across the Aire de Quai de Mare a Joseph parking area. This is a convenient spot to leave your vehicle before hitting the trail. Just a bit further along, at the beginning of the hike, you will find the Mare à Joseph Picnic Site where you can relax and have a snack before continuing on.
Midway through the trail, you will encounter several water points, including the Croisée Sentier des Sources and the Mare a Joseph drinking water spot. It's important to stay hydrated during your hike, so make sure to refill your water bottles at these locations.
As you venture further along the trail, you will reach the Côteau Kervéguen saddle, offering a picturesque viewpoint to take in the surrounding scenery. Nearby, you will also find the memorial of Gerard Bordage, adding a historical touch to your hike.
Towards the end of the trail, you will reach the Aire d'accueil de la Mare à Joseph where you can take a break and enjoy a meal at the picnic site. Don't forget to check out the Mare a Joseph viewpoint for one last breathtaking view before you head back.
