This hiking route takes you through a beautiful area with stunning viewpoints and natural features. The trail is 5.479 kilometers long with an elevation gain of 153 meters, making it a moderate difficulty hike. It is an out-and-back route, with the destination being the impressive Peña del Águila peak.
Starting off, you will pass by Venta Marcelino, a restaurant located just 0.01 kilometers from the trailhead, where you can grab a bite to eat before starting your hike. Further along the trail at 0.05 kilometers, you will come across Casa del Parque, an information center with useful resources for visitors.
As you continue on, you will encounter Mirador de Lucio, a viewpoint situated 0.05 kilometers from the start, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Fuente Bernaldo Quirós, a spring with drinking water, is located 0.09 kilometers from the beginning, providing a refreshing stop for hikers.
Midway through the hike at 2.74 kilometers from the start, you will reach the highlight of the trail, Peña del Águila peak. Here, you can enjoy breathtaking views and a sense of accomplishment for reaching the summit.
Before heading back, make sure to visit Puerto de Cotos, a saddle point located 0.12 kilometers from the start, offering a scenic spot to rest and take in the surroundings. As you make your way back, stop by the various points of interest such as the information center and peaks along the trail.
